Southampton vs Manchester United: Early confirmed squad news

by Sam Peoples

Here is the early confirmed Manchester United squad news for our trip to Southampton tonight at St. Mary’s.

Paul Pogba is not part of the match day squad having been given compassionate leave by Jose Mourinho after his father passed away. Mourinho has made it clear he will give Pogba as much time off as he needs and won’t rush him back into action, so there is every chance we won’t see him against Crystal Palace either.

Daley Blind has also been left out of the squad but his absence is down to simply being rested after playing the full 90 minutes away at Tottenham Hotspur. He’s a shoe-in for the Europa League final with Eric Bailly out injured, so like Pogba he may well not feature in the Palace game on the last day of the season.

Maybe surprisingly, David de Gea did not travel. Instead Sergio Romero, Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara made up the goalkeeping positions in the squad. His absence has led to further speculation over whether he will be joining Real Madrid in the summer.

Axel Tuanzebe, Demetri Mitchell and Scott McTominay all travelled so we could be seeing more youth players get some Premier League minutes and both Mitchell and McTominay are yet to make their full debut.

We will bring you the confirmed Starting XI as soon as we have it an hour before kick-off at 1845BST.
