Ander Herrera named 2017 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year

Ander Herrera has been named Manchester United’s 2017 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.

The Spanish midfielder quickly became one of Jose Mourinho‘s most important players and hasn’t taken his foot off the gas all season in a campaign where he has grown into one of our best players.

Herrera adopted a new defensive midfield role quite often and his excellent form saw him finally called up to the Spanish senior team which was richly deserved, as was this award tonight.

Here’s what Herrera had to say after winning the award:

We’ve made so many signings in the last few years but there aren’t many, if any, who have got United as much as Herrera does. Maybe it’s the Basque upbringing but his loyalty and commitment to United means he’s built up such a strong relationship with the fans in his time at the club and it’s only getting stronger.

Well done Ander! Future captain material and I’m delighted you have won the award.
