Jose Mourinho explains when David de Gea will play for Manchester United

Jose Mourinho has revealed that David de Gea‘s next Manchester United game will come in pre-season against LA Galaxy amid rumours of a potential move to Real Madrid for the Spaniard.

Sergio Romero was handed just his second Premier League start of the season against Southampton, with Mourinho clearly keen to hand the Argentine some game time ahead of the Europa League final next Wednesday.

And with Romero starting at Saint Mary’s and Joel Pereira set to feature against Crystal Palace, it was thought that De Gea, heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu over the summer, had played his last ever game for Man United.

But Mourinho, speaking soon after the game, insisted that the Spaniard would remain at the club and next feature for the first team during pre-season.

The 0-0 draw at Southampton was not fun to watch by any stretch; the fact that I’m still awake is an achievement in itself.

But for De Gea, if he really is set to remain at Old Trafford, this game would have been doubly hard to watch: for the first time since 2012, it felt as if his place on top of the goalkeeping hierarchy at Man United was under threat. Romero, the designated No.2, has hardly put a foot wrong this season and his performance against Southampton single-handedly kept the home side at bay.

In spite of Mourinho’s nonchalant response, this promises to be another lively summer for De Gea.
