Jose Mourinho has explained his Manchester United team selection against Crystal Palace, claiming it was a brilliant game for the youngsters to play without any pressure or responsibility.

The Portuguese boss made eight changes to his side as Timothy Fosu-Mensah returned from a shoulder injury and was hoping to prove his fitness ahead of the Europa League final against Ajax on Wednesday.

Goalkeeper Joel Pereira made his full debut and started alongside Demi Mitchell, Josh Harrop and Scott McTominay who made their full debuts.

Paul Pogba was back in the team after the death of his father but was taken off at half-time after a brilliant assist and goal in the first-half, Axel Tuanzebe also had another chance to impress while Wayne Rooney also started.

Speaking about his decision, Mourinho claims it’s great to give his squad a game to just enjoy.

“To the young boys, enjoy it and not feel the pressure or responsibility that this is an important game for them. Just play,” he said.

“It is not fair for them when there are 4-5 kids at the same time. Just try to be what they are against kids of their own age.”

Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ashley Young are out for the rest of the season but will travel with the squad to Stockholm as United face their most important fixture of the season.

It was a brilliant game and the youngsters repaid Mourinho’s trust in them and produced a performance to remember against Crystal Palace.
