Manchester United fans were full of praise for debutant Demetri Mitchell during their side’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the Europa League.
The United States born defender, included in the match-day squad for games against Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, was finally handed a chance to impress at a senior level against Sam Allardyce’s men.
And he didn’t let his opportunity go to waste, producing a wonderfully disciplined, energetic display on the left-hand side, replete with a series of smart interceptions and encouraging bursts forward.
Supporters were quick to laud the 20-year-old for what was a complete display at left-back.

Demetri Mitchell looks like Valencia's long lost cousin. But with two good feet

Josh Haropp will, no doubt, receive all the headlines following what was a fine attacking performance, hallmarked, of course, by a superb opening goal.
But make no mistake: in terms of an all-round performance, no debutant could eclipse the workmanlike guile that lay at the heart of Mitchell’s display. From minute one he was bursting with confidence, firing over a wonderful ball in behind Palace’s back four and into the path of Wayne Rooney, but that was just the start.
Some debutants will drift few a game, not necessarily playing poorly but hardly having much of an effect on a game – a token, above anything. For Mitchell, however, it was quite the opposite: his desire to assert himself on every passage of play was clear, and supporters will, no doubt, want to see more of him in pre-season.
