Juan Mata explains what Jose Mourinho told him at Manchester United

Juan Mata has opened up about his relationship with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, claiming he has no problems with the Portuguese boss.

Many believed Mata would be on his way out when Mourinho took over from Louis van Gaal last summer, but he’s been a vital member of the squad at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard is now convinced Mourinho is the right man to guide the club back to winning ways, starting against Ajax in the Europa League Final in Stockholm.

Speaking about the situation, Mata claims there is a good relationship in place between the pair.

“I don’t remember exactly what he said. Maybe it was a joke about how different the weather is here from London! It was something like that. I’m sure it was,” he said.

“It was a normal approach. Obviously we had so many conversations during the season, we had good moments and good conversations.

“But we have a good relationship and I will always say that because nothing ever happened, we didn’t have an argument or anything like that. He is a normal coach.

“He is the same and he hasn’t changed. The circumstances have changed, the club, with obviously a different squad, but that’s it.

“As you have seen, there are no problems with the manager. So I think people will think less about these things this summer.”

Mourinho has the right foundations in place at United and although results in the league have not gone his way, all will be forgotten if United qualify for the Champions League again.

The side have a big task ahead in Stockholm and hopes are they can get the job done in their most important clash of the season.
