Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran has admitted that teammate and Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann has doubts over his career under Diego Simeone.
Reports of Greizmann expressing a preference for a move over the summer were amplified last week when the Frenchman, when asked about the odds of joining Man United over the summer, noted that there was a ‘6 out of 10’ chance.
And Juanfran, when asked about his teammate, noted that there were serious doubts over his Atletico future.
“He is a guy who is very much loved in the dressing room,” he said.
“Griezmann will be leaving for his holidays and I understand that he can have doubts [about his future], but we must respect him.”
Filipe Luis, speaking just last month, made it abundantly clear that Griezmann was going absolutely nowhere over the summer. Diego Simeone, club Chairman Enrique Cerezo and even Frenchman himself all echoed similar sentiments.
But this is why you can never drop your guard during the transfer window: everything can be turned on its head in a mater of days; it is, after all, a period of battle in its own right, fought with money rather than players, and the appeal of Champions League football and joining a side that will, under Mourinho, only improve over the summer has clearly turned the Frenchman’s head.
