Miguel states that while Martial is not strictly for sale, Mourinho is open to receiving offers which, if true, will come as a bit of shock to Manchester United fans.
Sure, Martial’s second season at the club was far from blockbuster in comparison to his first year in which he was outstanding but the concept of selling him is one not many have entertained. Martial has the potential to be an absolute world beater and there’d be a whole host of clubs queueing up to sign him, so why would United and Mourinho let him go?
For me, I hope Miguel is just pulling some guesswork out here. It might have been a tough year for Martial, there may have been plenty of public criticism aimed at him by Mourinho but he won’t be for sale. He’s one of our best attackers and he’ll be much better next year, hopefully back to how he was in his debut campaign.
If Jesse Lingard is sticking around at the club having signed a new contract, then Martial is going absolutely nowhere and the arrival of Ivan Perisic wouldn’t change that at all. Competition is always healthy and having two class players on the left-wing, seeing as we’re back in the UEFA Champions League, is certainly the right position for United’s squad to be in.
