Everton have slapped a £90m price tag on Manchester United target Romelu Lukaku ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Agent Mino Raiola, speaking earlier this week, confirmed that Everton have promised the Belgian, who finished the 2016/17 campaign with 26 goals, he could depart Goodison Park over the next few months.
But according to the Independent‘s Miquel Delaney, Mourinho will have to once again break the world transfer record to sign Lukaku, with Everton valuing the player at £90m.
Demanding a world record bid for a player who, in spite of what was a prolific nine months, managed just one goal against the top six feels like an outlandish move to say the very least.
Lukaku is an exceptional talent: the fact that he has claimed more goals by the age of 23 than Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Michael Owen and Ibrahimovic deserves recognition, but you sense that Mourinho – nor any other manager, for that matter – would not feel prepared to make such a huge offer for a player who, as of yet, hasn’t displayed what he can do against the big guns in world football.
