Manchester United and Benfica are expected to complete a €40m deal for Victor Lindelof, according to reports.

A potential deal is expected to be announced after Sweden play France in their World Cup qualifier next week.

Man United scouted Lindelof extensively three weeks before the winter window opened, however, a deal was called off after Jose Mourinho was left impressed with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at the time.

Although it seemed like a smokescreen at the time, there were said to be complications with the sell-on clause Lindelof’s former club Vasteras were owed.

He’s continued to be heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer as Mourinho has been looking to bolster his defensive options following the club’s injury crisis last season.

He could be the perfect player to play alongside Eric Bailly, although United have also been linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and it’s clear Mourinho is keeping his options open to ensure he doesn’t start next season empty handed.

The side needs a locked down back four, and Mourinho will be working hard to ensure he has the right players in place to challenge for silverware in the Champions League and Premier League.
