Alvaro Morata has emerged as Manchester United’s top transfer target as they change their priorities to a centre-forward, according to the Telegraph.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to miss the start of next season with a serious knee injury, Jose Mourinho has been linked with a new striker as Morata joins the list with Torino striker Andrea Belotti or Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
The Spaniard is seen as a more viable option by Mourinho and any move would be separate from negotiations that may take place over David De Gea‘s future this summer.
Morata is valued at around £50million and although Man United are expected to bid slightly less, they’d still be saving money as Everton are looking at £100million for Lukaku and there’s a £87million release clause in Belotti’s contract.
The Portuguese boss will be looking to bolster his attacking options following United’s well-documented struggles in front of goal as he’s been frequently complaining about United’s wastefulness.
Ibrahimovic’s injury led to United re-focussing their transfer plans on a new no9 and plans have changed from signing Antoine Griezmann for this summer.
Mourinho will face stiff competition for Morata as he’s a massive talent and there have been plenty of clubs interested in his services.
