AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has expressed interest in a move to Manchester United despite entering talks with Chelsea, according to reports.
The Frenchman made 53 appearances under Leonardo Jardim on Monaco’s route to the Ligue 1 title last season, serving as a crucial lynchpin alongside the more creative Bernardo Silva.
It was reported earlier this year that Bakayoko, a figure of interest to many Premier League sides, would consider a move to Man United if they reached the Champions League group stages.
And according to M.E.N‘s Ciaran Kelly, the 22-year-old has not agreed ‘anything concrete’ with Chelsea in light of United’s 2-0 win over Ajax earlier this month.
The last few months would have made Jose Mourinho fully aware of the danger that comes with only using four midfielders over the course of a 64 game season.
Success on both the domestic and continental front, something no Premier League side managed over the 2016/17, is strongly contingent on having a midfield core hallmarked by surplus energy and power, and Mourinho, especially with Michael Carrick nearing the end of his career, cannot waste any time when it comes to emboldening his options in the middle.
Antonio Conte, now faced with playing in Europe with Chelsea, has clearly entertained similar thoughts, and whoever manages to land the extremely industrious youngster will, no doubt, gain a crucial early edge ahead of next season.
