Romelu Lukaku choses to snub Manchester United and join Chelsea – report

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will choose to snub Manchester United in favour of signing a deal worth upwards of £80m with former club Chelsea, according to reports.

Mino Raiola recently confirmed that the Belgian, who was sold to Everton by Jose Mourinho back in 2014, had been given permission to seek a move elsewhere over the summer.

And Mourinho, now in search of an all-out striker to address Man United’s malaise in front of goal, has expressed an interest in Lukaku, who is reportedly valued at around £90m by the Toffees.

But according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, United made an enquiry over the 24-year-old last week, only to be told that a deal with Chelsea was close to being completed.

Has Mourinho dodged a bullet here? Chelsea will have to pay north of £80m for the Belgian, making him at least the world’s fourth most expensive player ever – pretty steep for somebody yet to even play in the Champions League, let alone score.

Enormous pressure, then. Lukaku has made the No.9 role at Everton his own, clocking up respectable totals each season, but how will be fare when charged with the responsibility of leading the line for the defending champions?
