James Rodriguez’ stepfather, Juan Carlos Restrepo, claims he doesn’t want his son to play another season at Real Madrid.
The Columbian has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer after failing to nail down a regular starting role in Zinedine Zidane’s side, as he was also left out of the Champions League final squad which overcame Juventus.
He’s also been linked with moves to Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, however, Man United are said to be leading the race.
Speaking about a potential move, his father wanted him to build on his future elsewhere.
“I want to see my son play football,” he said.
“If it was up to me, I’d tell him to look for a club where he can play.
“I don’t think that James has been short on support at Real, I think he has the fans’ affection, but a talent like his needs to be on the football pitch”.
Real are asking for a fee in the region of €70 million for his services as he signed for nearly €80 million from Monaco after a massively impressive showing at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
