Manchester United a step away from completing a deal for Victor Lindelof – report

Manchester United are close to completing a deal for Benfica’s Victor Lindelof as he has already agreed on his personal terms, according to reports.

He’s allegedly expected to arrive in the next coming days to complete a medical ahead of the transfer, although he won’t be back to have the checks before Wednesday due to his participation with Sweden on international duty.

A deal will cost €35m plus a further €5m based on Lindelof’s achievements at Old Trafford, as Man United are paying just slightly more than Lindelof’s previous €30m release clause after a deal has been sorted out with his former club, Västerås SK, over a cut of the deal.

Jose Mourinho was looking to bolster his defensive options in the January transfer window with a move for Lindelof, however, he was said to be happy with the form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at the time.

Following the club’s injury crisis at the back, a move for Lindelof seems likely to happen as there’s a slim chance of signing the Raphael Varane unless it’s for a substantial fee.

Eric Bailly was relatively unknown at the time of his transfer, but he’s been incredible for Mourinho and the Portuguese boss will be hoping Lindelof can come in and have the same impact.
