AS Monaco left-back and Manchester United target Benjamin Mendy will not be rushed into deciding his next club amid interest from several top European sides, according to reports.
Reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho, who had placed Mendy on his list of ‘supplementary’ transfer options last summer, was once again keen on luring the Frenchman to Old Trafford.
But according to Sky Sports‘ Lyall Thomas, Mendy will not be rushed into choosing his next destination as he assesses interest from the likes of United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona and Juventus.
It is not an overstatement to claim that the Frenchman was probably the best crosser of the ball in France last season. He recorded 11 assists from left-back, with most of them stemming from a penetrating run followed by a pin-point fizzing ball into the box that would, more often than not, be snapped up by Kylian Mbappe and Co.
In fact, words can only convey the ferocity and accuracy of his crosses to a certain extent; you have to see, first hand, the thing fizzing through the air and into a danger zone to truly understand.
Any Premier League side would benefit from having full-backs capable of providing accurate crosses, but in Mourinho’s case at Old Trafford the need is even greater for two reasons: the first being that no left-back at United can fulfil this role, and the second revolving around the fact that, in Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial, his wingers like to cut inside – something that would, no doubt, be emboldened by the presence of Mendy bombing down the touchline.
