Jose Mourinho personally called Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata to convince him to join Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

The Portuguese boss allegedly told him how he would fit into his team next season in an attempt to get him to make the swap from the Santiago Bernabeu to Old Trafford.

His agent met with Madrid on Friday after the call and is set for another meeting on Monday to confirm the departure of the Spaniard.

Man United have already confirmed the deal for Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, however, the club seem to be busy planning the rest of their incoming transfers.

The side reportedly had a £52m bid for Morata rejected and a new transfer would be in the region of around £61m.

He’s set to take over from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was recently released by Man United after scoring 28 goals across all competitions since his arrival on a free transfer last campaign.

Although Morata won’t have as much experience as the big Swede, he’s still only 24 and has plenty of qualities on his side as he has the ability to play at Old Trafford for a long time.
