Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín was spotted having dinner with Monaco midfielder and Manchester United target Fabinho and his agent Jorge Mendes.
And according to AS Spain‘s Manu Sainz, Fabinho was seen in discussion with the Atletico CEO over a possible move.
It is worth noting that Atletico, after losing an appeal against a transfer ban, can not register any new signings until next January, creating a transfer domino effect that has kept Antoine Griezmann in Spain, diverted Alexandre Lacazette elsewhere and put Man United on course for signing Alvaro Morata instead.
There are more factors at play, of course. Movements in the transfer window are contingent on others, but the bottom line is that these developments have been initiated by the assumption that Atletico won’t be making any new signings, which is why seeing Fabinho – who surely wouldn’t want to spend the first half of the season simply waiting – edging towards a deal with the Madrid side makes little sense.
