Manchester United are set to make a €35m bid for Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo this summer, according to reports from Portugal.
It was reported earlier this year that a deal in principle had been agreed with the 23-year-old, who has just finished his first season as a regular in the Benfica starting XI, making 46 appearances.
And according to Portuguese outlet Mundo Deportivo‘s Francesc Aguilar, Man United make a €35m bid for the full-back, who has also emerged on Barcelona’s radar.
Semedo, when asked about a potential move away back in December, came across as somebody keen on spending more time playing regularly with his current club – much like Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg – before opting for a move elsewhere.
Then again, if Benfica receive another offer they can’t refuse and a move to Old Trafford is on the table, the Portuguese may regret passing it up a year later. Football, after all, is an ever-changing landscape.
It all boils down to a simply dichotomy: spend another year asserting yourself on the Benfica starting XI, or take a slight risk and rival Antonio Valencia for a place at right back next season?
