Juventus and Man United open Matteo Darmian discussions with €20m valuation

Manchester United and Juventus have held early discussions of the potential transfer of Matteo Darmian and a price of €20m has been touted.

Gianluca di Marzio reports that Juventus are on the hunt for a new right-back with Dani Alves’ future at the club far from secure and Darmian’s name is top of their list.

Despite having a poor first half of the season, Darmian came into his own in the second half and was one of Jose Mourinho‘s best and most dependable players – far more like the Darmian who initially showed so much promise under Louis van Gaal.

However, the suggestion from Di Marzio is that Man United are at least willing to entertain conversations with Juventus over the potential sale of Darmian this summer.

From my point of view, I’m not sure there is much value at all in United letting Darmian go, let alone for just €20m. He is a versatile, established international who really showed his worth at the crucial time last season when we needed players to step up. If he left, we’d have to replace him and I don’t think we could do much better at that price.

United have bigger priorities to solve this season than selling a versatile full-back, especially when we don’t even have a guaranteed starter at left-back, so to let Darmian go would seem strange unless a replacement was lined up.

Benfica’s Nelson Semedo is one name on that list but with Marcos Rojo out until around December time, United are already short of full-back options without letting the most versatile one in our squad leave.
