Juventus make contact with Manchester United over Matteo Darmian – report

Juventus have made contact with Manchester United over the availability of Matteo Darmian as a potential replacement for Dani Alves, according to reports from Italy.

The former Barcelona full-back is on the verge of joining Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and has seemingly fallen out of favour with the Juventus faithful.

Darmian has been subject to interest from Inter Milan – with whom Man United are currently engaged in a financial battle over Ivan Perisic – for some time. Roma have also joined the race to sign the 27-year-old, according to reports.

And according to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport, Juventus will seek out Darmian as a potential replacement for the outgoing Alves.

Assessing the Italian’s 2016/17 campaign is not something many have done. He made 29 appearances last season but only really emerged as a talking point after game 29, against Ajax, which saw him suddenly morph into Paolo Maldini for 90 minutes.

Chances were hard to come by initially, but a run of games from late November and through the December period showed him to be relatively solid but not much more than that.

Injuries to Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw in April gave him a chance to feature in some of the bigger games and, as time went by, he became a more burgeoning, instantly reliable asset at the back.

As a squad player, he is superb to have, but can he now push on to assert himself at Old Trafford, or will he opt for a move back to his homeland?
