Inter are reportedly refusing to budge on their €55m valuation of the winger, who has agreed personal terms with Man United.
United, however, are unwilling to pay such a fee and remaining firm on their offer of €30m as they know Inter will need to raise £26.4m to plug a gap in the club’s finances by July 1 to avoid being bit by Financial Fair Play regulations.
And Mourinho, according to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Daily Star), is keen on bringing the Croat to Old Trafford before pre-season starts next month.
The 54-year-old is holding all the cards here. Perisic clearly wants to move on from the dreary San Siro and on to Old Trafford, and Mourinho has the money that Inter simply cannot refuse.
What the Italians are doing, in effect, is whatever they can to squeeze as much out of United before inevitably giving in and letting Perisic leave and, in turn, avoiding a hefty fine from UEFA. Supporters will just have to wait anxiously until that time eventually arrives – but it should be no later than July 1.
