Jose Mourinho determined to keep Matteo Darmian amid Juventus interest – report

Jose Mourinho will block any advances made by Juventus for Matteo Darmian this summer after the Bianconeri confirmed that Dani Alves would leave this summer, according to reports.

The Old Lady, keen on replacing the outgoing Alves, joined Inter Milan, whose interest in Darmian dates back to January, and Roma in the race to sign the 27-year-old, who made 29 appearances last season.

Juventus are reportedly willing to offer a sum of around €20m to bring the 27-year-old – who impressed during the Europa League final – back to his home country.

But Mourinho, according to Goal’s Kris Voakes, is in no rush to let Darmian, a player he considers crucial for next season, leave Old Trafford any time soon.

Darmian has occasionally struggled to unshackle himself from the slump he encountered under Louis van Gaal following an exceptional first few weeks at Old Trafford, but the Europa League final – alongside displays away to Manchester City and Celta Vigo – served as evidence of what the Italian can offer.

Chances in the first team proved difficult to come by for Darmian under Mourinho, but with Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw set to miss the start of the 2017/18 campaign he will, you sense, be keen to impose himself further on the starting XI during the early stages of the season.
