Paris Saint Germain midfielder and Manchester United is set to join Juventus this summer, according to the front page of Italian daily Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday.
The Frenchman, speaking soon after PSG’s 1-0 win over Angers in the Coup de France final, noted that he was undecided over his future.
But the front page of Corriere dello Sport, using the imaginative headline ‘MATUISI’, has claimed that a deal has been agreed on Juventus.
Mourinho has already secured one of his four targets for this summer in the form of Victor Lindelof and is in the process of adding Ivan Perisic and Alvaro Morata, but his fourth – and perhaps most crucial – signing remains uncertain and could, like last summer, drag on for some time.
Matuidi serves as a viable option and will succeed at Juventus – a club renowned for taking players approaching their latter years and turning them into thoroughbred warriors – but Mourinho, at least with this particular area, has seemingly placed emphasis on signing somebody from the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic have emerged as the two most likely candidates and you suspect Mourinho has sidelined Matuidi in favour of pursuing the pair.
