Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been pictured back at Carrington despite being officially released by Manchester United earlier this month.

The big Swede looked set for a contract renewal following a sensational opening campaign at Old Trafford during which he scored 28 goals until suffering a knee ligament injury that will keep him out until the new year.

He was subsequently released by the club but could, according to reports, be offered a short term contract until the end of next season if he returns from injury in good condition.

Adrián Álvarez Beltramini, who was part of Atletico Madrid’s youth set-up, was seen posing with the 35-year-old at Carrington on Thursday.

Zlatan has targeted a return to full fitness by November – just seven months after going under the knife – and his return to Carrington, just two months after his season ended against Anderlecht, suggests he is on course for what would be an impossible target for most people.

My gut instinct when the striker arrived last year told me he wouldn’t succeed, that he could not weather the vicissitudes of Premier League at the ripe age of 34.

I was proven wrong.

My gut instinct tells me that he can not fully return to his best following such a lengthy period on the sidelines.

I truly hope that, once again, I end up being proven wrong.
