Manchester United target Fabinho has labelled Jose Mourinho as an “excellent manager” amid reports of an impending move to Old Trafford this summer.
Gianluca Di Marzio, alongside many other Italian outlets, confirmed that Man United were very close to securing the 23-year-old’s signature ahead of a €50m move.
Fabinho was asked during a Q&A session what United shirt he would be wearing next year and responded by noting: “At this moment, Fabinho is with the Monaco shirt.”
But the Brazilian did admit that Mourinho, alongside managers like Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane, was somebody he would consider working with.
“Mourinho, too. He is an excellent manager. No doubt,” he said.
“I would also like to work with great managers to learn more about football, learn new things. There are great managers in football.
“Guardiola, Zidane, who’s doing a great work, Tite, also doing a great job in the national team, Simeone. These are managers I would like to work with some day.
“My dream is to get to the national team, get steady, play the 2018 World Cup and at club level it’s to get to a big club that fights to always be champion, with champion mentality.
“It could be in Spain, England, France. I want to play for a club that fights to win the Champions League title. That’s what I’ll keep seeking.”
Fabinho, now keen on a new challenge after four seasons with Monaco, clearly knows what he wants and is not reluctant to publicly outline the criteria clubs have to meet before even considering launching a bid for him.
M.E.N have stated on several occasions that the 23-year-old was not on Mourinho’s list of targets for this summer, but the noise – and indeed the comments given by the man himself – can be hard to ignore, and as somebody capable of acting as both a midfield enforcer and sturdy right back, the Portuguese would be foolish to not take advantage of Fabinho’s evident interest in a possible move to Old Trafford.
