Pretty much every Man United fan wants us to sign Fabinho from AS Monaco because he’s a specialist defensive midfielder who showed his pedigree last season and has so much more growth ahead of him because he’s only 23.
Contrast that with Matic who is 28, experienced and arguably has declined on how good he was in his first season back at Chelsea and I suppose you could understand some of the trepidations about a move for him.
But what do the fans think? We asked you on Twitter for your thoughts about signing Matic and here is what you had to say:
For that price we will have been robbed….. again.

I'm good with it. Our problem wasn't stopping goals last year though. So we've still yet to address our attack.

He is 28 I guess. Maybe we should try for veratti for fabinho. Matic would be a bad signing.

Not bad. We need a great' squad depth for next season. Excellent at line-up, powerful at substitue.

Suffice to say that fans are definitely split over the idea of Matic becoming Jose Mourinho‘s second signing this summer. I mean, at £40m he is overpriced and nobody can argue against that. Chelsea might somehow sell a player they don’t want for more than they spend on his replacement in Tiemoue Bakyoko.
But fans turning their noses up at Matic must not be looking at our current midfield options and there is nothing to suggest we couldn’t bring in both Matic and Fabinho to strengthen with real depth, especially when you consider Fabinho can play at full-back as well.
United are going to be signing plenty of players this summer and we absolutely have to strengthen in central midfield. By the looks of it, Matic is going to be one of those signings and while I don’t agree with other thinking he’d be a bad signing, I’m not sure he would bring enough quality and depth to midfield on his own. So, I would like to see us sign Fabinho too in an ideal world.
What do you think about Matic? Would he be a good signing? Let us know in the comments below what you feel about Mourinho bringing back his former midfielder to Old Trafford.
