Manchester United have pin-pointed Fiorentina winger Federico Bernardeschi as a potential alternative to Ivan Perisic if a deal for the Croat falls through, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho and Inter Milan have arrived at an impasse after the Serie A side made it clear they wouldn’t accept a bid less than €50m for Perisic’s services – a fee Man United believe to be exorbitant.
Bernardeschi broke into the Fiorentina first team as a teenager back in 2013 and claimed 13 goals and five assists last season from the right hand side.
And according to Mediaset Premium, United have identified the 23-year-old as a potential alternative if the deal for Perisic – which needs to be done by the end of the month – falls through.
Mourinho is after a more traditional, hard-working winger this summer – something in short supply at Old Trafford last season – and Bernardeschi fits the bill just as well as Perisic.
He can feature on both flanks but prefers lingering on the right hand side and cutting infield to use his explosive left foot whenever he gets a chance.
More importantly, perhaps, the Italian is an indefatigable worker who will bomb up and down the pitch and offer support to full-backs for a 90 minutes.
Perisic would, of course, still be preferable, but the Fiorentina man would serve as a reliable plan B.
