Atletico Madrid president confirms talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s representatives

Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, has held conversations with Zlatan Ibrahimovic‘s representatives over the opportunity of signing him this summer.

The 35-year-old has been released by Manchester United after scoring 28 goals in 46 games after he suffered significant knee ligament injury which ended his season prematurely.

Atletico’s current transfer ban would mean they could only register him in January when the ban ends, however, this wouldn’t be an issue as the big Swede is set to return to full fitness by then and would be ready to play.

Speaking about a potential move, Cerezo also does not believe a move will materialise.

“Maybe we spoke with his family, but not with him,” he said.

“We are taking another line. We can talk about it in January, when we can sign people, but I don’t think it will happen.”

His future at the club remains to be seen as he’s currently continuing his rehabilitation at Carrington, but he could still play at Old Trafford if he’s still available in January.

There has been much talk over his next move as he enters the twilight years of an abnormally successful career, as teams in China and America are willing to splash the cash on his services.
