Jose Mourinho would like to sign Neymar at Manchester United if he decides to leave Barcelona, according to reports.
He has previously stated it would be impossible to sign the Brazillian as he expects him to replace Lionel Messi as Barca’s next talisman.
Man United’s interest Antoine Griezmann showcased their ambitions to complete a marquee signing this summer and following his decision to stay at Atletico Madrid, the squad have also been linked with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
“Neymar Jr. is spoken strongly in United’s offices. Mourinho’s logic dictates that the Brazilian is younger, with more potential and even more media coverage than Cristiano Ronaldo,” Diario Gol writes.
“Away from the shadow of Messi, he could play at the level that many times he has shown for Brazil. If they want to sign him, United would have to offer €200m. An affordable amount for the club that paid a world record fee for Paul Pogba.”
Here’s what Mourinho previously had to say about the situation:
“I always try to be objective and pragmatic with the clubs and ask the clubs for what can be given to me. Neymar is absurd,” he said. “A club like Barcelona cannot and will not lose Neymar.
“Although Messi is still a young player with years to go, he is already 30, and Neymar will be the great player of Barcelona after Messi. I think [trying to sign Neymar is like] going to try to break into a safe, impossible.”
A deal for Neymar would be incredible at Old Trafford, but there’s no chance of him leaving, even if United were willing to pay the €200m for his services.
