Zlatan Ibrahimovic has bid farewell to Manchester United fans following the official expiration of his one-year contract.
Today is the day Ibrahimovic officially leaves Man United as on 1 July his contract expired and having helped Jose Mourinho‘s side secure two trophies in what eventually turned out to be an excellent debut season, Ibrahimovic’s message was clear:
Writing on his official Instagram account, Ibrahimovic said: “I came. I said. I conquered.”
On an individual level based on the expectations, Ibrahimovic certainly conquered. Only a cruel injury towards the end of the season stopped him from reaching 30 goals in total but 28 overall, including some hugely important ones such as the double against Southampton in the League Cup final, were vital to our success.
I feel privileged to have watched Ibrahimovic play in a United shirt. He really is one of the modern day greats but I do have a sneaking suspicion there is a chance we haven’t seen the end of him in red because he could well come back on a short term deal when he’s over his injury in January. We’ll have to wait and see.
Ibrahimovic came to United, he said he would deliver and two trophies, 28 goals and plenty of blinding quotes later, he left. Red, conquered.
