Manchester United hoping to sign Mateo Kovacic this summer – report

Manchester United have already been linked with Real Madrid duo James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata but they’re now hoping to sign Mateo Kovacic, according to reports.

Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to bring him to Old Trafford when he just 17, but was put off by his £10million price tag at the time.

Jose Mourinho is currently interested in snapping up the now 23-year-old as he looks to bolster his options ahead of next season in the Premier League and Champions League.

Kovacic started his career at Dinamo Zagreb before moving to Inter Milan in 2013, after two seasons in Italy he then headed for the Bernabeu, but he could be set to arrive at Old Trafford.

Mourinho will be keeping his options open this transfer window, we’ve already seen top target Antione Griezmann commit his future to Diego Simeone as a result of their current transfer ban, and with moves for Ivan Perisic and Alvaro Morata slowing down, the Portuguese boss will not want to be left without any alternatives.

He was very persuasive in his first summer window and there’s no doubt he’ll have no problem recruiting the best names in football as he also has Champions League football to offer now.
