Roma sporting director Monchi says Radja Nainggolan is staying

Roma’s new sporting director, Monchi, has confirmed Radja Nainggolan will not be making the move to Manchester United this summer.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as Chelsea and Inter Milan have also been interested, but it doesn’t seem like he’ll be making the switch.

The chances of the 29-year-old leaving Roma this summer now look to be over as Monchi has revealed that he would like to keep him at the club as a player who remains an integral part of the plans.

“Yes [he will stay]. I think we’ve seen the last of the big departures from our club,” he said.

“Now it’s time to build a team, which will be supplemented with potential purchases in the transfer market.”

He joined Roma from Cagliari in 2014 and has helped the side as they have claimed two runners-up finishes in Serie A as well as third place in 2015-16.

Even if Jose Mourinho was interested in a move for him, the chances of luring him away now seem even harder, especially if Monchi looks to buy new players and build a team around him moving forward.
