Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier is desperate to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Man United have continued their attempts to sign a defensive midfielder and have been offered encouragement by Dier as his desire to make the Old Trafford switch has desired.
Tottenham start their pre-season training on Thursday and although they are unprepared to sell Dier, his eagerness to make a move has pushed forward a move, even though it may have seemed like a move could have collapsed previously.
He grew up idolising Roy Keane and then Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, he began his professional career as a centre-back, but has found himself as a defensive midfielder, even though he played there for the majority of last season.
United have acknowledged the difficulty in negotiating with Tottenham’s challenging chairman Daniel Levy, but with a deal for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic looking unlikely, there aren’t many options left.
Sir Alex Ferguson described negotiating with Levy as ‘more painful than my hip replacement’ and it’ll be tough to get a player Mauricio Pochettino rates so highly over the line at Old Trafford.
