Juan Mata has explained why Romelu Lukaku will make the difference at Manchester United, claiming his goals could help the side challenge for the Premier League title.
They are currently out in Los Angeles with the rest of the squad training ahead of their first pre-season tour fixture against LA Galaxy, followed by games against Real Salt Lake, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Valerenga and Sampdoria.
Man United agreed to pay Everton £75million for his services, with an additional £15m in possible future add-ons, as he scored 28 goals for the Toffees last season.
Speaking about his new team-mate, Mata believes his relationship with Lukaku during their time at Chelsea will help them at United.
“We played together for Chelsea and he (Lukaku) has had a lot of good seasons at Everton. He knows the coach (Jose Mourinho) well, and scores a lot of goals which we hope he will carry on so we can try to win the league,” he said.
“I think Jose is already thinking about the final, and has been since Real won the Champions League.
“The coach wants to win the trophy whilst in charge at United and although Zinedine Zidane had an incredible year in charge, we will try to create problems for them.”
Mata feels it will be money well spent if he can help them celebrate a first domestic title triumph since 2013 next May.
