Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has joined Championship side Aston Villa on loan for the 2017/18 campaign, the club has confirmed.
Johnstone, 24, joined Aston Villa on loan last season where he made 21 appearances and he now re-joins Steve Bruce’s side who will be intending to chase promotion next year.

Johnstone is no stranger to a loan spell having been on nine separate loan spells since 2011 and hopefully this will be another big step for him in his career. At the age of 24, Johnstone doesn’t need these moves for experience – he wants regular first-team football and he’ll get that under Bruce.
With David de Gea, Sergio Romero and now Joel Castro Pereira in Jose Mourinho‘s squad, Johnstone is really far down the pecking order so his career probably does lie elsewhere from Old Trafford. He’s a good goalkeeper and more than capable of competing in the Championship.
I wish Sam the best of luck at Aston Villa and hopefully he can have a decent loan spell which culminates with winning promotion to the Premier League in May. We’ll keep an eye on Sam and see how he gets on.
