Jose Mourinho explains his team selection against LA Galaxy

Jose Mourinho has explained his plans for Manchester United’s opening game of the pre-season tour in America against LA Galaxy.

With Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young not fit, and Sergio Romero not set to feature until the Real Salt Lake City clash, Mourinho is hoping to use most of his players against the MLS side.

Youngsters Demetri Mitchell and Scott McTominay were included in the squad to cover injuries, but Mourinho claims he’s looking to utilise the rest of his players.

Here’s what Mourinho had to say prior to the game.

“The approach will be 45 minutes each,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“We brought (Demetri) Mitchell and Scott (McTominay) to protect against injuries but at this moment everyone is ready to play.

“I am going to play with two different teams, 45 minutes for each player which is continuity in relation to the work they have been doing – they have nine hours of work done and tomorrow they will have nine hours and 45 minutes.”

He’s got a good squad of players and although some transfers have not been completed, he’ll be happy to have both Lindelof and Lukaku with the rest of the team.

The pre-season is all about match fitness more than anything so getting game time for every player in the squad is crucial and he did exactly that against LA Galaxy, so happy days.
