Manchester United confident of fighting off Real Madrid’s interest in David de Gea – report

Manchester United are confident about fighting off Real Madrid’s renewed interest in goalkeeper David De Gea, according to ESPN.

The Old Trafford hierarchy are said to be cautious over the Real’s ability to pay for the Spain No. 1, even though his girlfriend Edurne Almagro Garcia continues to live in Madrid.

Real are currently training at the same base as United in Los Angeles and are expected to make another attempt to sign him, two years after his move fell through due to a paperwork hitch on deadline day.

Following a collapsed move between both clubs for Alvaro Morata, it’s not looking great for Real, especially after trying to squeeze United for the best possible deal.

Jose Mourinho may have been more up for talks had Madrid not tease him with his top target this summer, and following some of the transfers we’ve seen this summer, De Gea’s fee would be much more than Real are currently prepared to offer.

With De Gea doing nothing to suggest to United that he wishes to return to Spain this summer, Real will need to come with a massive fee to even get United officials to consider the possible sale of one of the world’s best goalkeepers.
