Manchester United supporters were quick to express their discontent with Phil Jones‘ performance during their side’s 2-1 pre-season win over Real Salt Lake City on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old begun the game alongside Victor Lindelof and immediately struggled with what was a furiously paced opening from the hosts.
Salt Lake’s opener came after Luis Silva burst in behind Jones, who lacked strength and composure, before poking past Joel Pereira.
And supporters were far from pleased with the Englishman, calling for his departure over the summer.
Lol what if we just leave Jones in MLS and pretend he missed the flight back?

RSL look much more competitive than LA Galaxy & a goal was coming. Not great defending by Jones & not a great performance all round so far

Luis Silva puts RSL ahead. He muscles Jones off the ball and clips the ball into the net first time with his left foot. Good goal.

Phil Jones needs to be on his way to West Brom real quick if we're going to achieve anything.

LOL Phil Jones being beaten for pace by an MLS player and some people will still be convincing me he deserves another chance. #MUTOUR

Phil Jones got absolutely bullied there 👀

This is powerful a gesture of faith from Mourinho. Jones was indeed impressive for a portion of last season but failed to convince after returning from injury in early May. Doubt over his reliability continues to loom, and pre-season serves as the best time to put any concerns on the Portuguese’s part to rest.
But his display in Utah – indecisive, weak and lacking direction – would have only given him further headaches.
