The deal for Matic, seemingly agreed between the two clubs last month, looked to be off the table following Man United’s capture of Chelsea target Romelu Lukaku.
And according to the Guardian‘s David Hynter, United believe a deal can still be agreed for Matic – valued at £50m by owner Roman Abramovich.
This entire saga looked to be dead in the water not so long ago, but there are a number of factors arching in United’s favour here.
Firstly, and most importantly, Matic wants out. That much is clear. He wants to reunite with Mourinho and both parties want it done sooner rather than later.
Secondly, with Tiemoue Bakayoko set to fill Matic’s boots next season, Chelsea will want to offload the Serb – who has two years left on his contract – sooner rather than later as well.
And while Tottenham Hotspur have refused to even entertain the idea of negotiating with United for Eric Dier, Abramovich has set a price for Matic and will not receive a better offer from anywhere else.
