Eric Bailly has been given a three-game suspension for UEFA following his red card against Celta Vigo in the 2017 Europa League semi-final.
Having already missed the Europa League final, Bailly will now be unavailable for Manchester United’s Super Cup game with Real Madrid as well as the UEFA Champions League group opener.

Bailly is our best defender so being without him for the Real Madrid match is a blow but the important fixture is that UEFA Champions League curtain raiser. We’ll have to cope without him.
Who will play in his absence? Luckily, Jose Mourinho does have plenty of options but whether all of those options are good enough is another matter altogether. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Axel Tuanzebe can all play in that role as the right-sided centre-back with Victor Lindelof more than likely going to occupy the left-hand side position.
Bailly does have a bit of a hot head but I’m not going to lie – I love the aggressive nature of his game. That being said, he got two red cards in Europe last year which has now seen him miss four European games through suspension. Maybe just a little bit of pragmatism would be a smart idea next year, Eric?
