West Bromwich are set to launch a £10million bid for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with Victor Lindelof set to be paired with Eric Bailly in the centre of defence ahead of the new season under Jose Mourinho.

Tony Pulis’ side are said to be in prime position to land the Englishman as they hope to place an official bid once they return from their task in Hong Kong at the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Pulis is said to be keen on partnering Smalling with former team-mate at United Jonny Evans in his back-four, however, with other Premier League clubs interested, he’ll have to work quickly.

Leicester, Crystal Palace and Stoke are all interested in the chance to sign Smalling and if he’s looking for more regular football, he could choose to leave, especially with new arrival Lindelof taking his place.

Smalling has been at United since 2010, making 153 showings in the Premier League, but it seems like his time at Old Trafford could be coming to an end as he just can’t seem to find the right balance of consistency.
