Juan Mata trained alone on Monday night as Manchester United worked out at Georgetown University in Washington DC.
The side face a big fixture against FC Barcelona and will be hoping to continue a good run following victories against LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
He suffered an ankle injury during the second half of the 2-1 win at Real Salt Lake in Utah, forcing to miss the rest of the games in the pre-season tour.
However, after working incredibly hard on his rehabilitation, Mata returned to working individually with a member of the club’s medical team on the touchline of the pitch.
Former United player and current MUTV pundit Bojan Djordjic was delighted to see Juan working hard on his fitness.
“I have been with the team for such a long time on tour, watching training live, and Juan Mata smiles all the time,” Bojan said. “I keep going on about that smile but he really helps you get through some things, especially when you have quality. He has been through a lot during his career and that smile is always on.
“It doesn’t matter who he speaks to, it can be a staff member or it can be the manager, he always has time for everybody. He is very, very likeable and is also a very, very good player.”
He’ll be a vital player to have for next term and the main thing is that he’s ready for the opening game of the season against West Ham.
The Spaniard is arguably one of Mourinho’s most creative players and it’ll be important for him to regain full fitness ahead of a vital campaign in the Champions League and Premier League.
