He will miss the Super Cup match against Real Madrid on 8 August after his European ban was extended from one to three matches by UEFA.
The Ivorian was sent off during the closing stages of United’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Celta Vigo, which had ruled him out of the final against AFC Ajax in Stockholm.
Speaking about his situation, Bailly claims he is hoping to continue improving his game.
“In my time at United and with the help of the manager, I have improved,” he said.
“One thing I have learned is to improve on my tactical play, my physical play has changed too and I hope to continue to improve.”
He will also miss United’s first Champions League group stage match in September and talking about the ban, Jose Mourinho believed UEFA have been very harsh.
It’s a massive blow to have him out of action, especially as the pre-seaosn would have been the right time to build the partnership between Bailly and Victor Lindelof as they look to partner up in the centre of defence this campaign.
