Jose Mourinho hoping for Nemanja Matic breakthrough over the next week – report

Jose Mourinho is hoping there will be a breakthrough in the pursuit of Nemanja Matic over the next week, according to the Telegraph.

Manchester United hope that Matic’s determination to leave Stamford Bridge should lower his price as they don’t want to pay £50m for his services.

He wants to link up with Matic once again after he’s been isolated back at the Cobham training ground.

Matic would prefer to link up with Mourinho again, rather than move to Juventus, which is ideal as Ed Woodward would have the upper hand in negotiations, in the effort to lower the £50 million asking price.

He presents a long-term option at Old Trafford, rather than Renato Sanches, who Bayern Munich will only permit to leave on a season-long loan.

It’s a shame that Mourinho hasn’t been able to land his targets but that’s football, Real Madrid playing hardball for Alvaro Morata, Inter Milan for Ivan Perisic and Monaco for Fabinho.

Teams want to keep hold of their star assets and build moving forward, however, the Portuguese boss has done well to identify his alternatives and move on rahter than wasting time which he doesn’t have ahead of the new season.
