Gareth Bale’s agent dismissed reports linking his client with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
Jonathan Barnett spoke after many believed Bale could be set for a Bernabeu exit, with Real Madrid’s planned £160m move for Monaco ace Kylian Mbappe,
Jose Mourinho spoke to Bale before the pre-season clash against Real and told him in the tunnel that he hasn’t been able to sign the Welshman because they haven’t talked.
Speaking about speculation, Barnett’s response was to shut down news of any transfer.
“It’s a ridiculous, stupid story,” he said.
Bale has no intentions of leaving Spain and has openly targeted further trophies with Real Madrid, after arriving four years ago in a £85m transfer from Spurs.
Zinedine said he cannot guarantee Bale will stay at the Bernabeu this summer, however, a poll of 40,000 Madrid supporters in Spanish newspaper AS revealed 72 per cent of them would be happy with Bale being sold to United.
Bale would be an exceptional player at United and is the type of player that could be the missing piece of the jigsaw and help us challenge for silverware, but it’s clear he’s not leaving and Mourinho will need to look elsewhere.
