The Serie A side, ever since negotiations begun in early June, have refused to entertain anything other than an offer ranging between £45m and £50m – a figure Man United have considered to be exorbitant.
Man United are still confident of signing the Croatian winger, but talks have recently stalled amid Inter’s request for Martial to move to the San Siro on loan.
And according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, the Italian side will not budge when it comes to what they want for Perisic.
The entire Perisic saga has been a valuable lesson in the need for optimal patience in negotiations, because for two months the Italian side hasn’t shown even a single sign of giving United an inch.
And their adamance over Martial only complicates the deal further: Mourinho wants a different type of winger – somebody with a more direct, orthodox method – but will not want to lose one of his brightest prospects as a result.
He is, after all, looking for an alternative to players like Martial – not a replacement.
