Ivan Perisic has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, however, recent reports claim Inter Milan are only willing to drop their unjustifiable fee if Martial is included in a deal.
Man United were hoping to sign Perisic before the Serie A side flew out for the pre-season tour of China but with Inter demanding around £50m for his services, they’re hoping Ed Woodward will cave in and meet their demands.
Speaking about the situation, Mourinho claimed he needed options with different players.
“Everybody is in the plan – the plan is not to have a good team, but a good squad, with options,” he said. “We have important players injured for a long time and they will be back by the end of the year, so our squad is not so big.
“We need options. Lukaku, Martial, [Marcus] Rashford – all of them are different players. We need everyone.”
United have brought in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic since the end of last season and Mourinho has confirmed he is still hoping the club will provide him with his final fourth signing.
Although a deal has stalled recently, United are still expected to sign Perisic as he is keen to play under Mourinho in the Premier League.
