Manchester United told UEFA they plan to appeal Phil Jones’ ban – report

Manchester United have told UEFA they plan to appeal Phil Jones‘ ban after he verbally abused a doping control officer after the Europa League final, according to reports.

As it stands, Jones will miss the UEFA Super Cup with Real Madrid on Tuesday and United’s first Champions League group game as he was given a two-match suspension.

Jose Mourinho branded the ban unfair and urged Jones to appeal as the Englishman simply wanted to celebrate winning the final by taking pictures with team-mates and picking up his medal.

Man United have until Monday to submit their written reasons to UEFA but if they reject the appeal, they run the risk of having the ban extended.

Jones is set to travel with the squad to Macedonia on Monday and United will be informed of UEFA’s decision when the team arrive in Skopje.

It’s a shame for Jones as he’s looked much better since his return, especially with many now believing Chris Smalling doesn’t have what it takes to last at Old Trafford.

With Marcos Rojo also injured, the Englishman will be hoping to prove himself once again before the Argentine returns to the side and reclaims his place behind Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof.
