Nemanja Matic is hoping he will play for Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup Final against Real Madrid.
Jose Mourinho completed his £40 million signing from Chelsea on Monday and he went on to make a spectacular debut against Sampdoria in the final game of the pre-season tour.
He showcased exactly why the Portuguese boss has purchased him twice at two separate clubs, as he was ever-present last season under Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking about the fixture, Matic is trying to keep himself fit ahead of the clash.
“I will try to be 100 per cent ready,” said Matic. “I hope that I will be an option for those games. It was strange [not playing in pre-season for Chelsea] because the team has played and had a good pre-season but, as you know, I trained alone in London. I think I will get better and better and I hope I will help the team to achieve something this season.”
Mourinho has previously claimed he believes Matic will be ready sooner rather than later even though he largely trained alone at Chelsea before his move to United.
He will be in strong contention to start against Real Madrid on Tuesday night as it’s clear he has a vital role to play this season, targeting a third Premier League title in four seasons.
